Directions for use is a series of paintings,
showing, in a tongue in cheek way, how to possibly engage with Allen Laing’s functionally
ambiguous sculptures. As a sculpture typically serves no other purpose than
standing on a plinth to be looked at, these paintings present the artists, lovingly
engaging with and inspecting the sculptures , while subtly questioning the
purpose or motivation behind art and the ambiguity behind how to engage with
it.
The series is currently on exhibition alongside Allen Laing's sculptural piece Like a baby but less cute, at Diptych, curated by Assemblage.
Where: Liberty building (cnr of Wolmarans and Biccard, Braamfontein).
